Marc Jacobs "The Free Spirit" Holiday Palette
It really is the most wonderful time of the year. Especially if you're a beauty/skincare aficionado! Around this time, companies stock their shelves with holiday palettes and gift sets. For me, it's a fun way to try out new products at a great value.
Today's post is about a specific purchase - "The Free Spirit", a luxurious holiday palette from Marc Jacobs Beauty. "The Free Spirit" (Style Eye-Con No. 20) contains 20 beautiful shades. 9 of them are mattes, the rest are satin finishes or shimmers. These shadows are so soft and creamy, with very minimal fallout. The pigmentation on most of the shades is great - I only take issue with a couple of them: "Ultraviolet Glitter" (electric purple), and "Matte Mahogany" (cool-toned dark brown). The swatches were a little choppy, but they still function well. Some standouts for me are "Copper Rose Shimmer" and "Violet Truffle Shimmer" (swatched below). All in all, this is a great multi-use palette for neutral looks, smoky eyes, and the occasional pop of color.
Yes, it is a pricey number at $99. But I have never been able to bring myself to purchase any of the other Marc Jacobs eye palettes due to the high price tag. And according to beauty guru, Temptalia.com (NO seriously, what would we do without her?!), the value breaks down as such:
For those keeping track of value:
- Style Eye-Con No. 20 | $99.00 for 0.564 oz. or $175.53 oz.
- Value: Using the 7-pan palettes, this contains $138.65 worth of eyeshadow; using the trios, this contains $169.20 worth of eyeshadow
- Style Eye-Con No. 07 | $59.00 for 0.24 oz. or $245.83/oz.
- Style Eye-Con No. 03 | $42.00 for 0.14 oz. or $300.00/oz.
For me, it was absolutely worth the splurge. I have thoroughly enjoyed trying out Marc Jacobs shadows for the first time. I have not been using anything else on my eyes or a few weeks. And let's not forget - that packaging is just so luxurious and beautiful. I think this is a great buy as a gift this season, or even if you're looking for a nice way to treat yourself. No judging here :)
