Winter Skin Saviors (..and something for you too)
Remember when I was like "I feel like I've finally figured out my skin"? I think I may have tempted the skin gods with that bold statement. Maybe it's the cold and dry weather. Maybe it's the 2 weeks of antibiotics I had to take. Maybe it's the stress of the holidays? Who knows? All I can say is that I hit a brand new skin identity crisis about a month ago. My skin started breaking out like crazy (but only on my left cheek/jawline). I visited a couple dermatologists and slapped on whatever creams and ointments they prescribed me. For that week, my skin felt like it was just burning off my face. Every time I wet my skin, it felt as if it were on fire.
So let me sum this up for you... My current skin type: Oily T-zone, breakouts on cheeks/jawline, dry patches between brows and tip of nose, super sensitive (and easily inflamed) skin. This is how I felt. It was a pretty traumatizing few weeks.
But as a result, I'm really happy to say that I have found a stellar set of products that are super effective, yet gentle. My new year's resolution: Keep my skin happy. Don't beat it up with super harsh exfoliants and chemicals. So far, so good!
La Roche-Posay - Serozinc: I have been dying to try this product for a couple years. It's kind of a cult product for a lot of the beauty bloggers out in Europe. But it's impossible to get in the states. I find that so strange because we're able to purchase other La Roche-Posay products - Just not Serozinc? When one of my closest girl friends (and fellow beauty junkie) mentioned she was going to France for the holidays, I immediately asked her to bring back a couple bottles of this stuff for me. It's basically a zinc-sulfate solution in the form of an aerosol mist. When sprayed, my skin feels so cool and calmed. And it even helps with the crazy amount of redness I get lately. I really think that it has helped keep some of my breakouts at bay. I'm so lucky she purchased a backup for me. But I'm starting to worry - what do I do when I run out? Any of you UK/FR readers want to send me some? Pleeeeease? :)
Glossier Milky - Jelly Cleanser: Glossier's latest product, a wonderfully gentle cleanser. It is genius. The name is perfect. It's a soft milky/white gel cleanser. I love how versatile it is. I use it directly on dry skin (PM) to take off my makeup. I rub it all around my eye-area, and it doesn't burn! It's main cleansing ingredient is 'Poloxamer', which is a very gentle cleansing agent used in contact lens solution. Truly tear-free! In the AM, I use it on wet skin, giving my face a nice relaxing and invigorating massage. It's the only cleanser that leaves my skin clean, but not feeling tight or stripped. Great for all skin types, especially sensitive skin and dehydrated skin. The only thing to consider: It doesn't do a great job of removing waterproof makeup. Which is fine, I just go in with my Body Shop Camomile Oil Cleanser beforehand. So easy. If you want to try some Glossier products, you can use this link for 20% off your first Glossier purchase.
Kiehl's - Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate: This is not actually a new product for me. I have used this serum on and off for 2 years. When I realized that I was suffering from dry patches and dehydrated skin (me? really?), I immediately ran to Kiehl's to pick this baby up. It claims to hydrate your skin's deepest layers. And I believe it. It makes my skin feel so plump and hydrated. I use this mainly in the AM to give my skin some much-needed life. I also find that my make-up applies better when my skin is properly nourished. Good skin or troubled skin - I won't stray again!
Kiehl's - Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado: I have pretty much been a believer in the Kiehl's midnight recovery eye cream for 2 years. And then, I started to notice some little bumps form under my eyes. So I opted for something a little lighter, but just as nourishing. I apply this gently around the orbital area with my ring finger. Before applying, I make sure to rub the cream between my ring fingers - activating whatever magic is in the cream that gives it the 'burst of moisture' effect. It's like a big glass of water for your under-eyes.
Glossier - Mega Greens Galaxy Pack & Moisturizing Moon Mask: I mentioned the 2 Glossier masks in my glossier brand review. For me, it definitely wasn't a 'gotta have it' item at the time. I felt like it was 'too gentle' at the time. Joke's on me. Now, I can't live without these masks. The mask duo set is especially handy for traveling, as the mask pods are so darn cute and portable. It's like a box of chocolates. Scratch that. It's beautifully radiant skin in a box. I use both masks back to back for maximum effect. The green mask helps detox congested skin without stinging the crap out of your face. The blue mask is soothing and restores moisture after the quick detox session. You can find the masks at Glossier.com and get 20% off your first Glossier purchase. (Hint hint: Keep reading for a giveaway maaaayyybe...?)
Herbivore - Pink Clay Mask: I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to Herbivore products. But after reading so many glowing reviews, I had to try it. It's a very very very gently exfoliating and smoothing clay mask. It comes in powder form which is super fun. I usually mix it with some water (or rosewater, anyone?) in a small bowl. I use a clean foundation brush to apply evenly all over the face. Once I rinse it off, my skin feels so refreshed and silky soft. If you have sensitive skin, you need this mask now. It's definitely gentler than any manual or chemical exfoliants I've ever used.
Nuxe - Reve de Miel Lip Balm - I have potentially mixed feelings about this lip balm. I'm not a massive fan of how thick the consistency is. But whenever I apply it overnight, my lips are baby soft in the morning. I am very okay with that!
Kypris - Beauty Elixir II (Healing Bouquet) - I have saved the best for last. I was fortunate enough to have Kypris send me some goodies. They asked me about my skin type and concerns, and sent me corresponding products. I'm not going to delve too much into this company, but only because I plan on dedicating an entire post to Kypris products very soon. I just wanted to say a few words about the Beauty Elixir II. The most noticeable turning point of my skin started about 4 days after I began using this beauty oil. Any dryness I had disappeared and my skin no longer felt as angry. I wasn't getting nearly as many breakouts along my jawbone. It even helped with some blemish-related hyper-pigmentation issues. The more I use this beauty oil, the more results I see. In my opinion, one of the most impressive thing about this product is that it seems to know exactly how to address my severely combination skin. It's not too heavy that it makes me feel oily. But it's not another oily-skin/blemish-ridding product that strips my my skin of any moisture. The best word I can think of to describe this product: Balance. It just helped restore balance to my skin. Make sure you subscribe to the blog. I have a lot more to say about this brand, so stay tuned! (There might even be something for my readers as well...)
And now for the giveaway. I'm giving away one Glossier Mask Duo Set! I picked up a couple back-ups of the adorable (holiday limited edition?) duo set before they sold out at Glossier.com. I gave one of these bad boys to almost every female in my family. But I wanted to share one of them with my readers as well! The set includes 6 mega greens galaxy pack pods + 6 moisturizing moon mask pods. Each pod contains enough product for one use. The duo set also includes an elegant little elastic headband to help keep those wispy hairs out of your face while you're mask-ing!
