3 ways to brighten up your bold lip game
Looking for a way to update your makeup looks for the Spring / Summer? Yeah, me too. I've been playing around with color these days (who am I?), and have come to appreciate some lip colors that are out of my comfort zone. Here are 3 wearable bright & bold lip shades that I've been gravitating towards for the season! What are your current favorites?
The Popsicle Stain
This is a look I've worn a lot lately. I was gifted this red Chanel lipstick at a Wing event a couple weeks ago and was wondering if I'd actually get any use out of it. To me, a red lip has always been synonymous with black tie. It's a formal look. Fast forward to me a couple day later - running late to a meeting and applying some of my makeup on the train. It was the only lipstick I had on-hand, so I decided to just gently tap it in and blend with my fingers. The result? A gorgeous (and kinda sexy) lip stain that brightens up the face, without looking overdone. For added comfort, tap in a light layer of Glossier's Balm dotcom!
I would have never guessed that I would be into this lip color. I actually despise hot pink. But as a statement lip color? I'm definitely coming around to it! I think that a bright (almost electric) lip color is more akin to a statement accessory than a beauty-enhancer. Bright orange is another great statement lip color, but I'm always paranoid that it'll make my teeth look yellow - I'll eventually get brave enough, I promise! When sporting a bright AF lip, make sure to keep everything else (eyes, cheeks, accessories) pretty simple. It'll help your dramatic lip look can really pop. This Colourpop lippie pencil is so pigmented and stays on for hours. Not the smoothest formula of lipliners, but the pigmentation makes it worth it! Plus, your bank account will thank you.
Sultry & Sweet
Tom Ford's Matte Lipstick in 'Velvet Cherry' is one of the most sophisticated lip shades I have come across. Not quite red, not quite pink, not exactly the 90's brown... It's hard to put this shade in a box. In certain lighting, it looks a lot more pink. Other times, it's the color of a gorgeous Merlot. My point? It's versatile. It can be a great daytime statement lip (see above) paired with fluttery lashes and a peachy cheek. Or dress it up with a bold winged liner for a night out. It's a lip color that somehow manages to look cute, pretty, sophisticated, and sexy - all in one tube.
